Love of Writing
Wandering through imaginative worlds fighting fantastical beasts, pushing back against evil, saving the world and certainly others; or just engaging in regular make believe combat as one with an overactive illustrious imagination has been my life. For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed writing. Stories matter! Whether on page, for the screen, or stage, stories have a profound impact on how we view ourselves, the world, and the culture around us. Far too many influence us for the worse. As a Christian speculative fiction writer, I hope to influence readers for the better by weaving in real life situations that touch the heart, the mind, and the soul with pain, loss, love, and hope.
Through imaginative and dynamic storytelling my hope is to resonate with you, the reader. Not merely so you walk away thinking ‘how great a book that was.’ Rather, you walk away powerfully changed. Perhaps, you find that last bit of courage and strength to do the right thing in the way each unique character faces increasingly challenging decisions. As they overcome seemingly insurmountable circumstances and difficult situations, you find yourself empowered to latch onto that last bit of hope once thought impossible. As they set their face toward their destiny, whatever that may be, you find new resolve to approach every facet of life with newfound joy, knowing that even in the midst of darkness, there is always light to lead the way. When you put down the book, having experienced the deeply rooted and identifiable truths intertwined through the pages, perhaps… you look at life just a little bit differently.
Family
One of the most important things in this life is family, and I try to spend as much time with mine as I can. My wife and I have 4 boys, one of which (the oldest) is moved out, married, and serves in the Army reserves. The second oldest was all too eager to live life and set out recently, while the younger two are still at home. Life can be overwhelming and draw us in millions of directions. In an effort to foster unity and closeness, we try to maintain a regular family day where we do something special together. We also have two dogs. A gorgeous tri-color Australian Shepherd Cattle Dog mix (looks more like a medium sized Germen Shepherd) named Roo and a spry little (medium sized as well) rambunctious Golden Doodle named Lucy.
Hobbies & Interests
When time allows, which I might add is not often with a full-time job, family, and seeking to publish, I do have some hobbies and interests. My middle child and I enjoy playing paintball when possible and we have been known to occasionally team up in co-op battles in a Galaxy Far Far Away. The youngest and I enjoy going to the state parks and participating in their junior ranger program. We get to hike, play, and learn all kinds of neat things while we earn acorn points to get a bona fide junior ranger badge. We hope to visit all 40 state parks but time will lend credence to the veracity of that lofty goal. On the off chance my wife and I get ‘free time’ we simply go to dinner, walk the park or the local grocery store although; occasionally we do enjoy a good movie.
